What Is a Virtual Intensive Outpatient Program (VIOP)?

A Virtual Intensive Outpatient Program (VIOP) is an online mental health treatment option that provides structured virtual therapy and online support while allowing adolescents, teens, young adults, and families to stay at home and maintain their daily routines. Our insurance-reimbursed virtual intensive outpatient program (VIOP) connects you to a managed care coordination team. This is a convenient way for your adolescent, teen, young adult, and family to receive our high-quality care when attending in person is not an option or a virtual setting is preferred.

Does Virtual IOP Help College Students?

Our virtual outpatient programs are designed specifically to help college students improve their mental health. We provide flexible, accessible therapy that fits seamlessly into busy academic schedules, helping students address challenges like anxiety, depression, and stress.

Through personalized virtual sessions and a supportive community, we empower teen and young adult students to develop coping strategies, build resilience, and achieve their emotional well-being, all while staying connected to their academic and social lives.

What Are the Benefits of a Virtual IOP?

Flexibility

A Virtual IOP gives adolescents, teens, and young adults the flexibility to connect with a therapist from home to overcome behavioral health challenges like obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) through a specialized Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) track, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and substance use.

Inclusive Psychiatry Services

Embark’s Virtual Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is inclusive of psychiatric services and medication management.  We start with a thorough psychiatric evaluation to craft a tailored treatment plan for your teen or young adult. Regular follow-up visits, occurring as often as bi-weekly but at least once a month, ensure that we are continually adapting and optimizing their care.  This approach allows us to provide consistent, high-quality support, making sure no stone is left unturned in their path to recovery.

Industry-Leading Therapists

Our industry-leading online therapists with backgrounds in TF-CBT, ERP, EMDR, motivational interviewing, yoga, music, art therapy and more make treatment at our Virtual IOP engaging for teens and young adults.

Measurable Results

Our therapists provide measurable outcomes that show how far young people have progressed in our virtual intensive outpatient program.

Convenience

Our secure patient portal lets your family easily access premium therapy from wherever you need us.

We aim to meet you where you’re at and that may be in a location that doesn’t have viable in-person treatment options. We can also serve as an option for those who prefer to be at home or are waiting to get into an in-person program. We’re here to help you navigate getting the quality care you need.

How Does Embark's Online IOP Help Teens and Young Adults Heal?

Embark’s Virtual IOP is guided by a unique treatment framework that our therapists and specialists use to help adolescents and teens struggling with issues like obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), bipolar disorder, and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Our virtual IOP programs framework helps teens heal their mental health by providing a structured approach to therapy that focuses on building commitment, fostering acceptance, creating a sense of security, and promoting empathy.

How a Virtual IOP Works

Here’s how Virtual IOP programming works for youths and families at Embark:

  • Teens and young adults will spend three hours per day, four days per week in a variety of interactive group therapy sessions.
  • Youths will have weekly individual sessions and online family therapy once every other week with our therapists and specialists to overcome mental health conditions.
  • Your adolescent, teen, or young adult will receive supplies for experiential activities throughout the 12-week curriculum.
  • Youths will join a consistent group milieu where they establish strong peer support and lasting relationships
  • Group sizes are capped at eight with two therapists assigned to each group to ensure safety, group integrity and engagement
  • Youths will meet with their primary therapist during the first few days of treatment and, along with family members, come up with treatment plan objectives and goals.
  • Youths will also meet a multi-disciplinary team of clinicians and specialists depending on their condition who will help achieve those objectives
  • Psychiatry support and (if needed) medication management are inclusive of programming and are conveniently scheduled around your needs
  • At the end of the online IOP program, we’ll work closely with you on discharge planning and next steps.

Attendance Reminders

Our Virtual IOP patient portal will send you reminders so your adolescent, teen, or young adult will never miss a session. In addition, the convenience of accessing therapy from anywhere has been shown to increase attendance rates, which helps drive better outcomes for your teen or young adult.

VIOP Enrollment

Here’s how our VIOP enrollment works for teens, young adults, and families:

  1. You’ll connect with our dedicated admissions team, a licensed intake clinician, and a coordinator to get familiar with the program and complete your intake paperwork.
  2. Young people will take a mental health assessment and meet with a psychiatry professional for a psychiatric evaluation.
  3. You’ll log into the patient portal to access program information and see the VIOP schedule.
  4. A therapist will reach out to craft an individualized treatment plan and goals for young people.
  5. Safety and privacy are our priorities, and we’ll talk about group rules along with key contacts for your family.
