Online OCD therapy through exposure and response prevention (ERP)

Embark provides comprehensive and effective online treatment for obsessive-compulsive disorder through our virtual intensive outpatient program. With the convenience and accessibility of our online platform, adolescents, teenagers, and young adults struggling with this condition can now access evidence-based ERP therapy from the comfort of their own homes. Our program is led by highly trained ERP therapists who understand the intricacies of this challenging disorder.

ERP is a highly effective approach for treating obsessive-compulsive disorder. Our online format allows individuals to virtually engage in exposure exercises under the guidance of skilled therapists who tailor treatment to each person's specific needs. Our team provides additional resources to reinforce the principles learned.

Through secure video conferencing and virtual tools, our online program ensures privacy and confidentiality while providing effective OCD treatment. Our therapists will provide the care young people need to overcome their symptoms and improve their overall quality of life.

With the support of their dedicated ERP therapist in a safe and supportive environment, adolescents, teenagers, and young adults can gradually confront their fears, resist engaging in their compulsive behaviors, and regain control over their lives.

How a Virtual IOP Works

Virtual IOP therapist talks to teen with trauma.

During online IOP treatment, your adolescent, teen, or young adult will spend three hours per day, four days per week in a variety of interactive group therapy sessions. They’ll also have weekly individual sessions and online family therapy once every other week with our therapists and specialists to overcome issues they’re facing.   We’ll make the experience as engaging as possible, with your adolescent, teen, or young adult receiving supplies for experiential activities throughout the 12-week curriculum. At the end of the program, we’ll work closely with you on discharge planning and next steps.

Virtual IOP Enrollment

You’ll connect with an intake clinician and coordinator to get familiar with the program and complete your intake paperwork.

Virtual IOP FAQ

During online family therapy sessions in a virtual IOP, our therapists and specialists will give your family insights on how to communicate effectively and address conflict caused by issues like OCD. You’ll also receive tools and resources that can help your family through its healing journey.

During an online IOP program, a psychiatrist can prescribe medications to help treat your adolescent or teen. They can also adjust dosages if needed. As your adolescent, teen, or young adult step down from IOP, we’ll ensure you have the continued psychiatry and medication management support needed.

At one of our online group therapy sessions within our virtual IOP, your adolescent, teen, or young adult will meet with peers to address mental health challenges like OCD with the guidance of a therapist. Core skills taught in our online therapy sessions include mindfulness, emotion management, and distress tolerance. These skills will help change negative thinking patterns and promote positive behavioral changes.

Our virtual IOP can be very effective for:

  • Individuals who would benefit from a virtual IOP in the convenience of their home.
  • Adolescents, teens, and young adults who are stepping down from a higher level of care, such as an inpatient hospitalization, or up from a lower level of care, such as weekly individual therapy.
  • Families who feel they could benefit from online family therapy.
  • Adolescents, teens, and young adults who may feel more comfortable addressing challenges like OCD through therapies such as ERP in a flexible online environment.
  • Those in boarding school or college who need flexibility in scheduling.

Our virtual intensive outpatient programs for those struggling with mental health and substance use issues are insurance reimbursed.

Online treatment has emerged as a viable option for treating mental health challenges, including OCD. Numerous studies conducted in the past five years provide evidence supporting its effectiveness.

One notable study published in the Journal of Medical Internet Research examined the outcomes of online therapy for OCD. Study participants experienced significant reductions in obsessive-compulsive disorder symptoms and improvements in overall functioning. The study suggests that online therapy using ERP techniques can effectively treat OCD, providing promising results for individuals seeking accessible and convenient treatment options.

A virtual IOP can be a great option for adolescents, teens, young adults, or families who can benefit from the flexibility and accessibility of virtual treatment while staying at home and maintaining their daily schedule. For those who need more in-depth 24-hour care, residential treatment, outdoor therapy, transitional living, or an inpatient hospitalization may provide a more appropriate level of care.

Virtual experiential therapy is a form of activity-based therapy that brings awareness to young people’s experiences, feelings, inner thoughts, interactions, and needs. Examples of these interactive activities include:

  • Painting and creative arts.
  • Sculpting.
  • Yoga and mindfulness.
  • Music therapy.
