Scottsdale Outpatient Program FAQ

During outpatient counseling at our Scottsdale clinic, your adolescent, teen, or young adult will meet with a local therapist while maintaining their daily schedule. For those who have moderate mental health symptoms and a daily routine that is not negatively impacting their mental health, outpatient therapy may be a good option.

Outpatient visits to our clinic can involve weekly individual counseling sessions with one of our Scottsdale therapists. We also offer group therapy through our intensive outpatient program and our therapeutic day treatment program.

There are many benefits to outpatient treatment at our Scottsdale clinic. Our outpatient programs allow adolescents, teens, and young adults to maintain work and school schedules and receive support from friends and family while receiving counseling — and at a more affordable cost on average than most inpatient treatment options.

The main difference between weekly individual counseling sessions, the intensive outpatient program, and the therapeutic day treatment program at our Scottsdale clinic is the amount of time your adolescent, teen, or young adult will spend in treatment. Weekly individual therapy sessions require the least amount of time and can be scheduled at a specific time of day. An intensive outpatient program takes place in the evening to accommodate school and work schedules and typically meets three hours a day, three to four days per week, for a total of nine to 12 hours per week. A therapeutic day treatment program typically meets 5.5 hours a day, five days a week

The goal of outpatient therapy at our program is to help adolescents, teens, and young adults overcome difficult mental health and substance abuse issues like anxiety and depression through a series of visits to one of our Scottsdale therapists for weekly individual counseling sessions or an intensive outpatient or therapeutic day treatment program.

The main difference between inpatient hospitalization and outpatient treatment is the treatment setting. Our outpatient services, which include IOP and day treatment options, provide a good option for adolescents, teens, and young adults whose needs can be met by visiting a therapist in their local Scottsdale neighborhood while living at home and maintaining their daily routine. Inpatient hospitalization treatment is a good option for those who need to leave their home and receive dedicated 24-hour care in a hospital setting to overcome mental health and substance abuse issues.

The length of outpatient treatment depends on each child's particular needs and whether your child is attending weekly individual therapy sessions or participating in a therapeutic day treatment program or intensive outpatient program in Scottsdale. On average, outpatient treatment at our clinic can last from three months to one year. If a deeper level of treatment is needed, adolescents, teens, and young adults can step up a level in care to an inpatient hospitalization treatment program.

Our son is nearing the end of his IOP and there has been a huge change in him and in how we get along as a family again. I love the approach Embark takes looking not only at the client but the Client AND family or significant others as a whole. We all communicate better and where we are today compared to day one is a huge difference. The team is compassionate and professional. Communication is excellent. We have never felt in the dark during this process. My husband and I have even taken some techniques away from our family therapy that we use in every day life as well. They have a great plan for continued weekly therapy so that our son can continue his journey with their support which makes the transition much easier. We are thankful for Embark and the amazing people at their Scottsdale location.

I’m a couple weeks into my program, and it’s been such a great experience and the therapists have been so helpful with me addressing my depression and anxiety. They have a very flexible and non pushy approach with customizing my treatment and I’ve been noticing differences in my day to day life already. I’m thankful to finally be getting the help I need and from such a caring and professional team who creates a very safe and welcoming environment. Thank you embark ❤️

I am currently receiving treatment at Embark and as someone who hasn't ever been in an IOP they made me feel very welcome and all of the people here are so wonderful. I was pretty skeptical about doing a program like this and it was the people here who made me excited to come in every week. I recommend coming here to anyone and everyone, I know it's a scary thing, they won't make you do anything you aren't comfortable with but will always be there for you when you need it, so even if you are skeptical or don't think you need help, Embark is the best place for you.

The team at embark are truly passionate, informed and modern professionals. I was really nervous about enrolling in an IOP and they quickly helped me feel welcome, validated, and supported. Group therapy was strange for me at the beginning but the atmosphere of the facilities help create a calming environment.I fully trust my therapists to keep me safe, adjust my treatment per my needs. They also have accommodated my needs for having a service animal.

Embark has done nothing but impress me. The entire staff has been amazing. My daughter loves her sessions there and has been able to use the tools that she is learning and has also taught some of them to me. I can’t recommend this place enough.

My family has been with Embark for only a month, but I have zero complaints. The staff is so friendly and they really care about their patients. So far I feel that I am being heard, and the focus on the family as a whole unit is something different in therapy than I have never experienced. I am definitely impressed with the experience and quality of treatments.
