Shelby has experience working with children, teens, emerging adults, adults and families. She has experience working in private practice, in home treatment, PHP and IOP, providing mental health treatment to children, adolescents, adults and families. Shelby’s interests include working with teens, young adults, couples, and families who may be struggling with anxiety; depression; emotional/behavioral concerns; adjustment disorders; school related issues; ADHD; trauma; self-harm; grief/loss; peer pressure/bullying; self-esteem/body image issues; gender identity issues and life transitions. Shelby is also skilled in guiding individuals and families through attachment-based, relational, and communication barriers. Shelby is also skilled in facilitating psychoeducational groups for both teens and parents who are looking to master the complicated nuances of family dynamics.

Shelby utilizes various counseling theories and techniques based on individual and family needs. By incorporating Expressive Treatment Modalities, Attachment Based Family Therapy (ABFT), Functional Family Therapy (FFT), Eye Desensitization Movement Reprocessing (EMDR), and Client Centered approaches, she is able to encourage and motivate client’s and families to engage in reflective and healing work. Shelby fully engages her clients in a collaborative effort, empowering them as they recognize and build upon their innate strengths. Her goal for therapy is to create an open, warm and safe therapeutic environment for each client/family to heal and grow.

Shelby joined the Embark Rockville team as Enrollment Director in March 2023. She is excited to support families in successfully landing in program and meeting their treatment needs.
