Rachel Nelson, CSW

Therapist - Rosa Parks House

Rachel Nelson, CSW, is passionate for helping teens, she is empathetic, sincere, and direct. Rachel became a therapist because she wants to help facilitate the individual’s ability to begin the healing process. Rachel understands what a pivotal time in life adolescents is, discovering who they truly are, and their purpose in life. Rachel believes that the power to change comes from within, no one is broken. The therapist role serves as a guide who creates an opportunity to discover healing, a change in perspective, and bolster one’s support network for we are not meant to walk the path in life alone.

Rachel received her Bachelor’s Degree in Family Life Social Services from Brigham Young University. She then went on to get her Master’s Degree in Social Work, also from BYU. Rachel began at New Haven many years ago as our Animal Manager, she loves animals, specifically horses and is an EAGALA- equine Specialist. Her experience at New Haven increased her desire to go back to school and further her education in order to work more closely with teens and families. Rachel specializes in CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing, Substance use Disorder, Mood Disorders, and has completed trainings in Expressive Sand Tray, AutPlay Therapy, EMDR, and Trauma Informed Therapy. Rachel has had experience at multiple residential treatment facilities and is excited to be back at New Haven.

Rachel enjoys reading or listening to her favorite fantasy books, playing games with her family, taking long walks outside, making tasty treats, riding horses, and cuddling her cute grandkids.
