Intervention at the ideation stage may help keep your teenager from taking their own life.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Learn more about suicidal ideation in teens and contact the<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/988lifeline.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">988 Suicide &amp; Crisis Lifeline<\/a><\/strong>, if your child is in crisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-identifying-a-suicide-threat-in-a-teenager\"><strong>Identifying a Suicide Threat<\/strong> in a Teenager<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s not uncommon for teenagers to joke about wanting to \u201cend it all\u201d over something like lack of sleep, a social dilemma, or work problems that they may be experiencing. However, for some teens, it can be a cry for help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/violenceprevention\/pdf\/suicide-datasheet-a.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">On average, 17% of adolescents<\/a> have had suicidal thoughts at least once in the past year. If your child is talking about suicidal thoughts, it should be considered real, and swift action should be taken.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Suicidal ideation is sometimes the result of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.embarkbh.com\/depression-in-teens\/\">depression<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.embarkbh.com\/teen-mental-illness-and-treatment\/\">another mental illness<\/a>, but it\u2019s important to remember that any teen can suffer from suicidal thoughts. In these instances, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.embarkbh.com\/behavioral-health-and-mental-health-treatment\/\">proper behavioral and mental health treatment<\/a> can often aid in prevention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-if-you-see-any-of-the-following-signs-in-your-child-who-has-mentioned-suicide-seek-help-right-away\">If you see any of the following signs in your child who has mentioned suicide, seek help right away:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Changes in eating habits<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Changes in sleep habits<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Extreme changes in emotions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Withdrawal<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-danger-of-suicidal-ideation-in-teens\"><strong>The Danger of Suicidal Ideation<\/strong> in Teens<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Suicidal ideation can last for hours, days or months before a suicide attempt. Every second that a teenager sits alone with thoughts of suicide is endangering their life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/injury\/wisqars\/LeadingCauses.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)<\/a> data for 2020, suicide is the second-leading cause of death for ages 10-14 and the third-leading cause for ages 15-24.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the best things you can do to prevent suicide and suicidal ideation is<a href=\"https:\/\/www.embarkbh.com\/contact-us\/\"> to reach out for help<\/a> if you know your child is in crisis or suffering from depression or another condition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-treatment-for-suicidal-ideation-in-teenagers\"><strong>Treatment for Suicidal Ideation<\/strong> in Teenagers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Due to the possible outcome of suicidal ideation, it is crucial to seek help now, if your child confides in you that they are thinking of taking their life. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>It is better to react quickly than leave the possibility of any harm.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are unsure what to do, contact the<strong> <\/strong>988 Suicide &amp; Crisis Lifeline for immediate support by calling, texting, or chatting 988.
