Clinical Intern

Patric Farrell, originally from Silver Spring, Maryland, grew up playing soccer throughout the D.C. metro area. He is currently a third-year Clinical Mental Health Counseling student at Marymount University in Arlington, Virginia. This past summer, Patric completed his practicum at VHC Health-Virginia Hospital Center, where he gained invaluable experience working in a hospital setting with diverse patient populations.

A 2004 graduate of the University of Delaware, where he earned a degree in English with a minor in History, Patric is now pursuing licensure as a Clinical Mental Health Counselor. As a proud member of the Health Services Administration (HRSA) C-SHARP Scholars Program Fellowship, he is deeply committed to addressing mental health needs within underserved communities.

Patric’s counseling approach is rooted in person-centered therapy, emphasizing building empathetic, non-judgmental relationships with his clients. He integrates solution-focused techniques to help clients set achievable goals. He also promotes cognitive-behavioral strategies to challenge and reframe unhelpful thought patterns. By blending these frameworks, Patric aims to empower his clients to overcome challenges and foster personal growth.

Before transitioning into counseling, Patric taught physical education and coached travel club soccer in the Washington, D.C., area. He also interned with the men’s soccer program at Gallaudet University. He worked as an instructional aid for students on the autism spectrum. These diverse experiences in teaching, coaching, and working with neurodiverse individuals have enriched his counseling practice, allowing him to bring a supportive approach to his clients.
