Meet Ashanti Boston, a black woman born and raised in New York City. She joins us now in Virginia with all of her extensive experience. She began with experience as a therapist intern at a school based mental health program at Staten Island Mental Health Society for 1.5 years. There, she facilitated individual, group, dyadic and family therapy for adolescents and their families who struggle with emotional and behavioral issues.

Ashanti attended the CUNY College of Staten Island for both her bachelors of Science in Psychology and Masters of Arts in Mental Health Counseling. She is now a Licensed Mental Health Counselor [LMHC] in the state of New York and a Licensed Professional Counselor [LPC] in the state of Virginia.

Throughout her career, she has provided therapeutic services to a multitude of populations and settings: Ashanti provided mental health support and psycho-education to the New York Department Of Education staff of pre-school aged children at different school settings as a Behavioral Health Consultant for the non-profit Jewish Board company. She continued to work for the Jewish Board within a Rapid Intervention Center (RIC), where she provided individual, family and group counseling for the residential youths, along with maintaining a myriad of other social work related responsibilities, all for the promotion of safety and mental health for said residential youths. Following this, Ashanti worked for the The New York Foundling non-profit agency facilitating therapy to families with emotional and behavioral issues through Functional Family Therapy and Multi – Systemic Therapy. Furthering her career, Ashanti continued work within private practice for Brooklyn Counseling Services, conducting individual, group and family therapy. Ashanti continued facilitating individual therapy services at the SohoMD private practice agency.

Ashanti has provided therapy services focusing on Existential, trauma focused, cognitive behavioral, feminist and psychodynamic modalities.

Ashanti is dedicated to supporting her clients to develop the tools in overcoming hardship. She is committed to helping her clients achieve lasting success by providing a listening ear and practical tools that they can implement in their everyday lives, long after treatment. Her approach creates a transparent and judgement free atmosphere where clients can feel safe to work on themselves and their struggles.

Outside of work, Ashanti enjoys anime, conventions, cosplaying, comic books, dungeons and dragons and going on adventures with her friends and family.
