Chrysalis is a therapeutic boarding school (TBS) for girls located in northwest Montana. Removing distractions and giving teenage girls room to heal, Chrysalis helps each girl find her inner strengths and discover the best way to share those strengths with others through unique life-affirming adventures.
Chrysalis’ calm and peaceful setting on a lake amid the majestic Rocky Mountains is a gentle reminder to each girl that life is truly an adventure. Encouraging students to unplug from urban stressors, students at Chrysalis find balance, healing and peace.
Girls at Chrysalis enjoy a personalized approach to academics while receiving therapies. Certified teachers lead small classes through focused academics and students earn credit year-round, finding or rekindling a love of learning that will serve them throughout their life. Additionally, girls live in homes rather than dorms. This lifestyle encourages students to work together to decorate, build friendships, and examine old living patterns that inhibited growth.
All therapists at Chrysalis have at least a master’s level of expertise that encourages students to develop healthy, safe relationships and positive lifelong habits. Through building connections and healing wounds, therapists work with each student to improve family relationships.
Set in stunning northwest Montana, girls at Chrysalis stay active and even gain mastery in several different activities. Students discover new talents that build confidence, including boating, biking, hiking and rafting to downhill skiing and snowboarding. Additionally, Chrysalis is the only residential treatment center that guarantees each student one international trip (at no extra cost). Believing that exposure to other cultures and service is vital to a well-rounded life and that travel is an invaluable experience, students navigate international travel, continuing to build confidence that carries over into their everyday lives.
Chrysalis personalizes each aspect of treatment, offering a full academic program, therapy from experienced therapists, adventure, international and recreational travel, service and transition services. Specializing in family-style living and relationship development, Chrysalis fosters an environment that supports identity development, self-esteem and a sense of belonging.
Chrysalis serves teen girls between the ages of 13-18. A typical length of stay at Chrysalis is 12-18 months, but this is adjustable based on the individual student’s needs. Many students that come to Chrysalis struggle with forming healthy habits at home and in their social groups. In the past, they may have made poor choices leading to confusion and a loss of self-esteem. Students arrive at Chrysalis commonly dealing with anxiety, body image issues, depression, eating disorders, esteem issues, learning struggles, mild attachment issues, poor relationships and stress and trauma-related conditions. Chrysalis does not provide primary treatment for addiction, eating disorders or self-harm.
