Vienna Outpatient Program FAQ

Outpatient therapy at our Vienna program involves treatment using therapeutic techniques such as DBT and TF-CBT, which can be provided to your child in their neighborhood while they maintain their daily schedule. For adolescents and teens who have moderate mental health symptoms and a daily routine that’s not negatively impacting their mental health, outpatient therapy may be a good option.

There are many benefits to outpatient treatment at our Vienna clinic. Our program allows adolescents and teens to maintain work and school schedules and receive support from friends and family while receiving counseling — and at a more affordable cost on average than most inpatient treatment options.

The goal of outpatient therapy at our program is to help adolescents and teens overcome difficult behavioral health and substance use issues like anxiety and depression through a series of visits to one of our Vienna therapists for weekly individual counseling sessions or an intensive outpatient program.

Outpatient visits to our clinic can involve weekly individual counseling sessions with one of our Vienna therapists. We also offer group therapy through our intensive outpatient program. During these treatment options, our therapists will use therapeutic techniques such as DBT and TF-CBT that will help your adolescent or teen overcome mental health challenges.

The main difference between inpatient hospitalization and outpatient treatment is the treatment setting. Our outpatient services, which include an IOP, provide a good option for adolescents and teens whose needs can be met by visiting a therapist in their local Vienna, Virginia, neighborhood while living at home and maintaining their daily routine. Inpatient hospitalization treatment is a good option for those who need to leave their home and receive dedicated 24-hour care in a hospital setting to overcome mental health and substance use issues.

The length of outpatient treatment depends on each youth's particular needs and whether your adolescent or teen is attending weekly individual therapy sessions or participating in an intensive outpatient program in Vienna. On average, outpatient treatment at our clinic can last from three months to one year. If a deeper level of treatment is needed, adolescents and teens can step up a levelof care to an inpatient hospitalization treatment program.

Vienna Outpatient Program Testimonials

"During our time at Embark my child grew stronger and more confident. They also grew closer to their family. Embark’s multi-faceted approach of combining group therapy with individual therapy and medical support helped them adapt to high school and cope with anxiety. I am proud of my thoughtful child and grateful that we found Embark."

-Karen

"Embark is a very high quality treatment program for teens with a warm, nurturing, and supportive environment and staff. The treatment incorporates DBT skills and therapy, which was most helpful to my child. The enrollment process was easy, and we did not wait long for a placement in an IOP program for my child. My child was reluctant at first but then bonded with all the staff and other teens. The medication management definitely helped. The discharge was fluid, as my child transferred to a PHP program afterwards. My child's treatment was successful in that they experienced less suicidal ideation and depression at the end of the IOP. My child needed a long time in this IOP, but I am convinced that it saved their life! Thank you!"

-SHW

"You are your child's most important advocate and cheerleader --if they are reluctant to go to a program this long, don't give up. You know your child best. Give your child time to settle into the program. Listen carefully for feedback and also observe your child for behavior improvement. Some changes are more subtle. But, overall, listen to your child and try to hear them when they tell you how they feel."

-SHW

"Where to start! We experienced other programs and this is hands down the best. The support from the team is exceptional. The therapists all work together to help the child. They are available and open to speak to parents and keep them up to date. For us, they recognized when our daughter needed more help, gave us direction and welcomed her back when she was ready to step down back to IOP. Our daughter is still doing IOP as I wrote this, but has made tremendous improvement in her overall well-being. It is a very difficult time when a loved one goes through a mental health crisis. We tried a variety of places and none were as exemplary as Embark. Do not hesitate to enroll your child. The help, insight, and care they receive will put your child on the path to heal, grow, and mature."

Our experience at Embark (Tysons) was excellent from start to finish. The admission process, interactions with staff, from the front desk to the therapists was exceptional. Embark is organized and effective while remaining caring and providing superior care. Our daughter was matched with a therapist who connected with her and who also managed the family unit professionally and with ease. We were provided benchmarks for her progress and goals as parents to work on as well. I am very grateful to the care team at Embark Tysons.

The decor and design of the place are very soothing and helpful to the clients but what was best was the therapist my child got. The therapist Shavonne Gray did a lot of very difficult work with both my child and the family, never giving up or giving in to sometimes conflicting dynamics in the family. The therapist went above and beyond to understand and hold space for my child. She curated difficult family sessions with skill and empathy. She also made intuitive and trained decisions in the best interests of my child and provided my child with coping mechanisms and life tools in a way that my child was able to understand and retain. I would highly recommend Embark Tysons Corner and this therapist to any client in difficult life circumstances.

Our family had a wonderful experience with Embark. Our son had fallen very low with anxiety, depression, ADHD and POTS. He went to a residential program for 12 weeks and next went to the Embark at Tyson's corner. It was the right choice. His therapist Donovan understand him and connected with him. The therapists were skilled and responsive. Our son made strong connections with the other kids in the program. The program includes frequent feedback which we found helpful. The parting ceremony was quite emotional with tears all around! The staff helped us connect with a new followup therapist. All in all we were quite happy with Embark and recommend it whole-heartedly.

Loved this place. Very modern design and clean. Staff is very helpful and friendly. The therapists are very caring, responsive and professional. You will get results but u have to stick until the end of the program. Kids learn lots of skills that they can apply not only to help them with their mental health but also day to day life. Also plenty of parking across the street.

If your teen needs mental health support, you cannot go wrong with Embark Tysons Corner. The program uses DBT coping skills, which everyone can benefit from, parents and teens alike. Everyone, from staff to clients, are welcoming and supportive. It's amazing to see the transformation over so many weeks of treatment. It's also a data-driven program, which helps support what you will likely see at home. Working the program is hard work and a heavy commitment; however, it may literally be the life line you're seeking.Thank you, Embark Tysons, for such a wonderful experience.

We are so happy with the program at Embark. Our 14 year old has been in the 14 week IOP and just completed. the support and care from the staff has been amazing. We were so nervous and unsure at the start wondering if it was the right step to take. Our child has really seemed to grow more confident and comfortable with the help of the peer groups. We know that their continued mental well-being will be a journey but we feel so grateful that this program is one of the ways we could start.

The counselors and staff at Embark are extraordinary! We had tried multiple counselors and no one was able to make a bond with our daughter and we didn’t know where to turn. Embark got her in right away. Her Embark counselor was the only person she would opened up to and was able to gain her trust and form a bond! That is a true miracle! They genuinely care!

Embark came into our lives at a really dark moment. The team at embark, their expertise, programming and support helped my daughter and the whole family. The program helped her gain the confidence and tools that she needs to be successful emotionally, physically, academically and socially. Embark helped us as parents understand her strengths and how to support her. It has been over six months since our daughter graduated from embark. She still uses the strategies that she learned every day. She has developed into a confident successful kind human being. I cannot say enough good things about the program and the team. Embark-Tysons literally saved her life and taught her how to embrace joy and understand love of herself and others. Her contagious laugh and dancing footsteps brighten our world because she is happy.

We enrolled our 15yo son here in February. He was struggling with depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts. Monthly psychiatric treatment and medications had helped, but not enough. He was resistant to going to Embark due to the intensity and the time commitment. However, within a week we could tell that he was clearly receptive to it because he always went to every session on-time, whereas we could not say the same for school. Within 2 weeks he was making an extra effort to attend even on days when he didn't feel well physically or mentally. As parents, we were not present for his therapy with others, but could see the improvement in his attitude and outlook. Embark showed us with data, that it wasn't just what we felt, our son's depression levels were improving, and he was objectively reaching a better state of mind. For the family sessions, he opened up more to us. The medication management offered through their doctor gradually reduced the amount of drugs he was taking, while simultaneously improving his overall mental health. Throughout, the staff at Embark were professional, kind, encouraging, and accomodating. Our son graduated from the program in May. We were under no false impressions that he was "cured", but knew he was better equipped to deal with his challenges going forward. It is now 1 month later and he seems to be in as good a place as he has been since before we first became aware of his mental health challenges. I don't feel it's an exaggeration to say that the program at Embark may have helped save his life. If you have a child struggling with mental health issues, Embark is definitely worth considering.

Embark beyond exceeded my expectations! The staff is very professional and caring. My teen learned so many skills that will help navigate their adolescence and aid them in healthy behaviors as an adult. My teen highly benefited from the program and looked forward to attending daily. The support from Embark will aid in a positive trajectory for our teen and family.

Thank you to all the Embark staff for the support you've given our family. I see my child using the skills they learned and having the confidence to manage their anxiety and depression. Thanks to the family meetings I am more prepared to support them. The team has been warm, welcoming, and professional throughout my child's time there. I have nothing but great things to say and would strongly recommend the IOP program to any family looking to help their child. Special shout out to Hannah, Jamie, and Shavonne!

If you have a teen struggling with mental health issues, please consider Embark at Tysons. My child felt safe, heard, seen and understood during her Intensive Outpatient Program. Everyone who works here is professional, kind, and deeply cares about helping teenagers decrease their anxiety and depression. As parents, we were included and consulted at each stage, and the family therapy sessions were vital in supporting our child and our family. A special thank you to Melissa who was our child's individual therapist, and will continue with ongoing support after the IOP has ended. In addition, the space itself is beautiful and welcoming. We entered our child in this program after years of various therapies and medications, and we believe this program has finally helped our child see a way through her mental health struggles.

This program provided a safe, welcoming learning environment and I cannot say enough about everyone. Between the customer service at the front desk to the psychiatrist and amazing therapists (we love Hannah!) My daughter has grown and learned so much and I am forever grateful. The parent sessions were also helpful. All in all a great environment (the layout and snack offering top notch!) and I would recommend Embark for any child needing mental health support! Thank you all!

Embark has truly exceeded my expectations! I had the pleasure of attending their Open House event today at the Tyson’s Corner clinic location. I was invited to attend by their Executive Director, Sharon Dietsche. I have worked in the mental health field for many years so I am always looking forward to seeing and meeting other clinicians and professionals in the field. From the start the environment as well as the team was welcoming and really demonstrated how much they bring the hearts and their passion into work each day. While the day was short, I had the opportunity to tour the clinic and see the various therapeutic spaces and group spaces available to clients and their families. In addition, there was a panel discussion to give us insight on the Embark values and approaches to this very important work. I cannot commend this team enough for what I know they do each day. Their plans for expanding more clinics and finding ways to reach more families is simply refreshing. If you have not visited this or the other Embark locations, please do!

I had a lovely experience participating in the Embark open house event this morning. As a therapist myself, I was very impressed by the Tysons Corner clinic and their welcoming environment. The clinic’s atmosphere is inviting and soothing. The staff are very friendly, caring, and dedicated to providing high qualities services. The Executive Director, Sharon, and her team are highly invested in each of their client’s healing and it shows in all they do!
