IOP and PCP frequently asked questions (FAQs)

What is an IOP like at our Livingston clinic?

During IOP at our Livingston program, your adolescent, teen, or young adult will meet with a local therapist alongside their daily school or extracurricular activities routines. Teens and young adults enrolled in an IOP or PHP will participate in therapeutic activities and treatments such as DBT skills practice, CBT skills, art therapy, journaling, and group therapy sessions with the healing guidance of a therapist.

What are the benefits of attending our IOP in Livingston?

Our IOP and outpatient therapy allow adolescents, teens, and young adults to maintain work and school schedules and receive support from friends and family while receiving counseling — and at a more affordable cost on average than most inpatient treatment options.

What is the goal of outpatient therapy at our Livingston clinic?

The goal of outpatient therapy in our program is to help adolescents, teens, and young adults overcome mental health conditions like anxiety and depression with the guidance of our healing therapists.

How long does an IOP last at our Livingston facility?

An intensive outpatient program takes place in the evening to accommodate school and work schedules and typically meets three hours a day, three to four days per week, for a total of nine to 12 hours per week of therapy and treatment.

How does outpatient therapy compare to inpatient hospitalization treatment?

The main difference between inpatient hospitalization and outpatient therapy is the treatment setting. Our outpatient services, which include intensive outpatient programs, provide a good option for adolescents, teens, and young adults whose needs can be met by visiting a therapist in their local neighborhood while living at home and maintaining their daily routine. Inpatient treatment options, such as residential treatment or a therapeutic boarding school, are a good option for young people who need a live-in facility and receive dedicated 24-hour care to overcome mental health conditions.
